El futbolista camerunés del Fútbol Club Barcelona, Samuel Eto'o, manifestó que "África se está muriendo" y que, con la Fundación que ha creado y lleva su nombre, pretende "mejorar el día a día de los jóvenes" de su país a través del fútbol.

Del mismo modo, explicó que la Fundación Samuel Eto'o, constituida en marzo del 2006, busca que los niños y jóvenes de Camerún se integren en la sociedad a través del deporte. "Yo he ido creciendo como futbolista, y eso me genera una entrada de dinero que puedo volver a invertir en mi Fundación", manifestó Eto'o.
Mientras, el representante del jugador de fútbol, José María Mesalles, explicó que la Fundación Samuel Eto'o, cuyo lema es 'Con el fútbol para la integración social', trabaja con 4.000 niños cameruneses a los que pagan "una beca de estudio y otra para que aporten dinero a casa, ya que sino sus padres les obligarían a ir a trabajar".
Así, Mesalles apuntó que los niños pueden jugar en los equipos de la Fundación "siempre que asisten al 75 por ciento de las horas lectivas", y agregó que tienen la intención de crear una escuela de fútbol con internado para 200 niños, proyecto que "costaría más de dos millones de euros".
Asimismo, explicó que algunos equipos de la Fundación, que cuenta con un presupuesto de 400.000 euros, acuden a jugar torneos a Europa, "lo que sirve de escaparate para los niños". Finalmente, señaló que hay nueve niños que han salido de esta organización y que actualmente están jugando en la cantera del Fútbol Club Barcelona. ep
